Our Story
Get to know how it started.
We are Jem and P-O, a Filipino Canadian couple who live in Canada. We are learning to make easy vegetarian recipes. The name Maple Brown Rice represents both our countries of origin. Maple as the name describes P-O's birth place Canada and Brown Rice describes Jem's birth place Philippines. Jem prefers brown rice because of her tan complexion as a Southeast Asian.
At first, our goal was only to share our passion to our family and friends. However, we thought of expanding this goal to everyone who is interested about vegan and vegetarian food. So, the idea of lazy cooking recipes came to our mind. We hope that our simple videos can help you explore your culinary cooking skills and be able to share your creations with the ones you love.
About Jem
I became a vegetarian because of spiritual and ethical reasons. This lifestyle change inspired me to cook vegetarian and vegan dishes at home. Eventually, my husband encouraged me to create recipe videos so that we can share with everybody.
About P-O
I became vegetarian because it felt more in line with my vision of life and my values. Before meeting my wife Jem, I was always eating the same thing: salad. Then, I got introduced to Jem's kitchen and I fell in love with every single recipe she made. I am a web developer and I love the idea of helping Jem to spread her recipes all over the internet.
